Stampin'B's Challenge #39 - Happy New Year!

As hostess for this week's Stampin'B's Design Team challenge, I decided that in honor of the new year, we should celebrate both OLD and NEW. So my challenge was to use your oldest stamp with your newest tool or embellishment.

Stampin’ Up’s Fishy Friends was the very first stamp set I bought, and I still have a warm spot in my heart for those cute little aquatics. My newest “tool” would be the octagonal nesties. I decided to make a framed project rather than a card. The octopus is stamped on white cardstock and colored with Copic markers. After cutting out the image and the two mat pieces with the nesties, I mounted them on some DP that looks like water. To create a “break” between the turquoise layer and the water, I outlined the octagon with a white gel pen; and to add a little whimsy, I attached the fish charm with a brad. The frame is probably older than the stamp because I found it in a bag of wooden frames that my mom had in her closet when I cleaned it out about six years ago. I spray-painted it and added the half-pearls. Do they look like bubbles? I hope so, because that was the look I was going for! I’m going to give this to a girl in my office who is pregnant. She told me she was decorating the nursery in the theme “Octopus Garden.” I think it will fit right in.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Stampin'B's Challenge #38 - Candles

NancyRuth was the hostess for this week's Stampin'B's DT Blog Challenge. I bought this candle/bible stamp last year at a stamp show and have no idea who made it. But I really like the stamp; so, when NancyRuth wanted us to make a card using candles, it was my first choice.

I wanted some white space around my music background, so this card is 5 ½ inches by 8 ½ inches. It’s hard to tell, but the Christmas Music background is stamped in gold pigment ink and embossed. After tearing the edges, I sponged on some Palette Cognac to give it a little distressed look. The candle/bible image is colored with Copic and Prismacolor markers, cut out and popped up with dimensionals. The sentiment, which is part of the Flourishes Christmas Music set, is stamped in Palette Noir Black, cut out with Petite Oval nestabilities and matted in red. I sponged some more of the Cognac ink on the white panel.

All Flourishes images and Palette inks are available at Mark's Finest Papers.

I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

Year In Flowers Calendar

I just purchased Flourishes' Calendar sets -- there are three of them, four months/flowers in each set -- and have completed a Christmas gift for my friend. I bought a little $1 calendar at Michaels for the "calendar" portion and used the Flower of the Month on the top portion. I actually made two calendars -- the other one is for my sister. That one is more horizontal.

I coordinated the cardstock color with the design on the calendar, not necessarily the flower of the month. January's crocus, however, was a good match all the way around. The flowers are all colored using Copic markers and cut out with Spellbinders Labels Three.

I have to admit that I needed to Google "primrose" for February. I've never seen a primrose before. When I heard the name "primrose," I thought it was going to look like a rose. NOT! After I did all my coloring and gluing, I punched the holes at the top with my Crop-a-dial and used binder rings to hold the calendar together. Because the cardstock is sturdy, the calendar will stand up by itself. I didn't need any kind of holder or frame. This was a fun project!

Stampin'B's Challenge #37 - Beverage

Faith (Markie's Mom) is the hostess for this week's Stampin'B's DT Challenge, and she wanted us to make a card using a beverage. I’m a tea drinker, so I immediately thought of tea!

I stamped the stacked tea cups from Flourishes’ Christmas Tea set with Palette Noir Black onto MFP Snow Storm Smooth and colored it with Copic markers. I cut out all the panels with Nestabilities Labels Eight and sponged with Palette Landscape before taking the die off the paper. I didn’t want to cover up the image with ribbon, so I used some gold cord to tie a bow; and added a little teacup charm. I matted the teacup panel and Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses background with MFP Spring Leaf.

All images, cardstock, charm, and inks are available at Mark’s Finest Papers.

Mark's Finest Papers Blog Hop - Day 2

Today is Day 2 of the very first Mark's Finest Papers DT Blog Hop. For your chance to win some exciting Blog Candy, visit and comment on each of the design team members' blogs for both yesterday and today. Then, on Friday, a winner will be chosen from those who have visited all 7 blogs both days. The winner will receive 2 BRAND NEW Stamp Sets, 5 packages of Mark's Finest Papers and 5 Satin ribbons! And remember, Friday night will be the New Flourishes Release at Mark's Finest Papers! The winner will be announced on the Mark's Finest Papers Blog on Friday.

I decided I wanted to do something other than a card today, and one of the new Flourishes sets contains images of teacups and accessories. So I thought I would make a tea bag holder, using the tutorial in the Resources section of Splitcoaststampers.

The base of the tea bag holder is MFP’s Spring Leaf. I made my own DP for the inside with several of the stamps from Flourishes’ Christmas Tea set, coloring them with Copic markers. I didn’t want the silver snowflakes to overtake the images, so I did not emboss them – just stamped them with silver pigment ink. The front is stamped similarly to the inside DP, but I popped up the teapot and added a spoon charm. It was originally brass, but I pushed it into the silver pigment ink and sprinkled it with Detail Silver embossing powder.

I thought the eggnog-flavored tea was perfect for a Christmas cup!

The paper, Palette ink, charm, ribbon, and Flourishes images are available at Mark’s Finest Papers

Stampin'B Challenge - Tri-Shutter card

The hostess for the Stampin'B's DT Blog challenge this week was Joanne (jojot). She wanted us to make a tri-shutter card, which actually was quite fun. You can use up lots of your scraps on a card like this.

The base of my card is Not Quite Navy and the scraps come from various Christmas paper pads. I want to say that they are probably all by DCWV, but don’t quote me. The main snowflake is from Just Rite Stampers’ 3 ¼” Christmas Stamp Ensemble – the center stamped on White and the outside stamped on Not Quite Navy. Both are cut out with Nestabilities circles. I added a few punched-out snowflakes to the red panels. The little snowman is a clear dollar stamp from either Michaels or Joann (not sure which), and the Snow People sentiment stamp is from The Artful Stamper. Red, blue and gray may not be traditional Christmas colors, but I’m happy with the way this turned out. Sometimes you have to go outside the box – in more ways than one!

Stamps - Just Rite Stampers Christmas Ensemble, The Artful Stamper
Paper - Not Quite Navy, various DP
Ink - Not Quite Navy, Whisper White
Accessories - White ep, Nestabilities, snowflake punch

The winner will be announced on the Mark's Finest Papers Blog on Friday.

I had been looking for a stamp with Christmas sheet music on it when I saw Flourishes’ Christmas Music. I stamped the music with Palette Noir Black on Snow Storm Smooth cs and matted the panel in Egyptian Gold and Ripened Tomato. After scoring the large white panel using my Scor-Pal, I sponged Palette Moulin Rouge around the edges, and then matted it with gold and placed it on the red cardbase. I was so happy to see that Flourishes’ Fancy Labels matched some of my Spellbinders labels dies – this one fits very nicely into Labels Four. I added some pretty satin ribbon and a drum charm.

The paper, ink, charm, and Flourishes images are available at Mark’s Finest Papers.

Hope to see you on Wednesday and Thursday!

Today I have another card I made during my stamping week at the beach -- another Santa card using my very favorite Santa image – Flourishes' Santa I Believe set.

I hate to add too much to this marvelous face so I just stamped it in Palette Cognac and colored only the holly and berries. I did outline the glasses with a gold Spica glitter pen. The card base is Spring Leaf, with a relatively wider mat of Basic Grey Wassail. The sentiment is stamped in Palette Landscape and cut out using a Spellbinders Label.

All cardstock, ink and Flourishes images are available at Mark’s Finest Papers.

Stamping at the Beach

My stamping buddy Rosemary and I take an annual trip to the beach each year right before Christmas. Her daughter has a 4th floor condo in Satellite Beach, FL which looks right out at the ocean. We pile all our stamping supplies into her SUV, take off for the beach, and then spend the week making our Christmas cards. Last week was our third trip – nothing to do but stamp, eat, and look at the ocean! These are some of the cards I made this week.

I am loving this Flourishes set – Doves and Holly. I made two cards using it. The first one is 5 x 6 ½ inches. The base and background panel for the doves are Ivory Cream Super Smooth. I cut the frame from Spring Leaf using the Spellbinders Foliage Frame die. I must confess I do not know where the DP came from – it was in my stash. The doves are colored using Copic markers, cut out, and popped up on dimensionals in the center of the frame. I added some paper piercing around the inside of the frame, and I was done.

The smaller card is a standard A2 size. I thought the smaller doves would fit well using the double embossing technique, and I liked the way it turned out. Paper is Ripened Tomato and Snow Storm Smooth. This one is pretty simple – just the embossing, some ribbon, and a fancy tag.

The cardstock and Doves and Holly set are available at Mark’s Finest Papers.

The tree on these two cards is part of a two-stamp swing card set from Repeat Impressions. The larger card is a gatefold card on which I glued DP from a big Christmas stack of paper from DCWV all the way to the edges of the “gate.” The tree is colored using Copic markers and some Spica glitter pens. I added a sentiment from My Sentiments Exactly and some ribbon.

The smaller card has a little more bling. All the decorations on the tree are rhinestones from Michaels. The card base is Bravo Burgundy with a couple of stripes of DP added for interest. The little circular sentiment is from a clear dollar set.

To say that my week at the beach was productive is probably an understatement. I wound up making around 35 Christmas cards. And we had a ball! We even had time to go see “New Moon” again for the third time!

Stampin'B's Challenge - Acetate Window

Nicole is this week's hostess for the Stampin'B's DT Blog Challenge. I took her literally when she said to do a “clear acetate window” card. I put an acetate window in my toy store. Art Impressions has a great series of stamps called Doorways. There is a door stamp and a window stamp. Then there are many different “theme” sets. This one is called Christmas Toy Shoppe. The lamp post is from the Bakery set.

I stamped the door and window onto Very Vanilla cardstock with Palette Burnt Umber, colored them, and then cut them out. I paper-pieced the awning over the window. The cornice at the top and the sidewalk are Sahara Sand. I stamped the Christmas lights with Palette Noir Black across the cornice and colored them with Spica glitter pens. The sidewalk is stamped with Palette Burnt Umber. The storefront is a piece of Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses DP on which I stamped the window and then cut out the opening to place the acetate window behind it. The piece of Close to Cocoa matting is also cut for the opening, as is the Kraft card base.

Inside the card is the image of the toys, stamped on Very Vanilla and colored with Copic markers. The lamp post, sign on the door and bench are all popped up on dimensionals. This was a fun card to make. Thanks, Nicole, for the push.

Stamps – Art Impressions Doorways, Christmas Toy Shoppe, Bakery
Paper – Kraft, Close to Cocoa, Sahara Sand, Very Vanilla, Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses DP
Ink – Palette Burnt Umber and Noir Black
Accessories – Copic markers, Spica glitter pens, Acetate sheet, Dimensionals

Vicky Gould was the hostess for this week's Stampin'B's DT Blog Challenge. She forced me to make one last Thanksgiving card – and it’s a pretty simple one.

The image is from a clear dollar stamp I found at Joanne, stamped in Palette Burnt Umber and quickly clear-embossed. I used a corner rounder to match the line border around the sentiment. To add a little more color to the basically monochromatic color scheme, I sponged around the edges with Palette Landscape. The card base is Really Rust, as is the punched layer around the sentiment. I used a Martha Stewart Around the Corner Punch to “fancy” it up a bit. The patterned paper is from Debbie Mumm’s Harvest & Holiday DP pad from last year. A little ribbon and one of the punched-out leaves, which I sponged, from the corner punch were added for a bit of an accent.

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.

Featured Stamper Challenge

Today's Featured Stamper on SCS is Biggan (a/k/a Birgit), who happens to live in Sweden but is a regular contributor on SCS. This is the card from her gallery that I chose to CASE.

I used Birgit's theme of Christmas, sheet music and angel but made the following changes:

* A square card instead of A2
* Different colors
* Different stamps
* A circle instead of a rectangle

The square card base is Mark’s Finest Papers Momma’s Favorite Purple. After stamping the sheet music from Flourishes Christmas Music set onto Snow Storm Smooth, I tore the edges and then sponged Palette Cognac all the way around. The angel is colored with Prismacolor and Copic markers, and then I went over the wings with a clear Sakura Stardust gel pen. She is cut out with Nestabilties, the last layer with the Inverted Scallop Circle, which is also sponged with Cognac.

I ran the ribbon all the way around the front panel of the card and tied the bow, adding the sentiment, which was punched out with the SU Key Tag punch.

All cardstock, images, ribbon, and inks are available at Mark’s Finest Papers.

Stamps – Flourishes Christmas Music and Rejoice
Paper – Mark’s Finest Papers Momma’s Favorite Purple and Snow Storm Smooth
Ink – Palette Noir Black and Cognac

Stampin'B's Challenge #33 - Red/White/Black & A Moon

Today is the day for which we’ve waited a long time – “New Moon” is released. I bought my ticket two weeks ago! It’s hard to believe that so many “non-teenagers” are all so gaga over a book which was written as a teenage love story. It must be something about the vampires! As the hostess for this week’s Stampin’B’s DT challenge, I couldn’t let the date pass without a New Moon-related challenge: a color challenge (red, white, and black) with a twist (must have a moon).

The trees are stamped in Palette Noir Black on GP White. I used my Stamp-a-ma-Jig to line up the horizon line and stamped it twice so that the trees would spread all the way across the white panel. Then I stamped the Stampscapes moon and stippled the sky. Granted, it’s a full moon not a new moon, but I’m thinking it still counts! I stamped the moon again, cut it out, and popped it up. The sentiment is from Artful Inkables Twilight-related set Fictionally Inspired, and I layered the panel with three Petite Ovals Nestabilities. It is stamped with Palette Noir Black and clear embossed.

Stampin'B's Challenge #32 - Anything But a Card

NancyRuth was hostess for this week's Stampin'B's DT Blog Challenge. For her challenge of "anything but a card" I was trying to do something a little different for me. As I was scrounging around in my attic trying to organize the stuff in there, I came across this little stationery set that I think my mom bought in a dollar store several years ago. I thought it might look cute dressed up a little bit.

I covered each piece with the daisy paper from a jumbo DP stack from DCWV called the Photo Stack 2. I ran the paper for the Journal, Address Book, and Note pad through my Xyron machine with the laminating cartridge in it so that the DP would be protected from handprints. I stamped the Gerbera Daisies from Flourishes on white cardstock and colored them with Prismacolor and Copic markers. I stippled a little color around the images so that the background wouldn't be quite so stark white. The words were printed from the computer. After taking the picture frame/storage unit apart, I also covered each piece with the daisy paper and then reassembled it.

Here are all the pieces separately so you can see how they look. That little cutie in the picture frame is my one-year old grandson William.

Christmas Cards

Here are a couple of more Christmas cards I made this week.

While at a workshop this past weekend, I saw an all-white Christmas card that was really pretty. So I decided I wanted to try one. The base layer is embossed with a Sizzix embossing folder; the next layer is a Cuttlebug snowflake layer, and the round piece is also a Sizzix embossing folder. I used a Sakura clear gel pen to highlight the embossed parts and added a punched out snowflake.

This is my card for Sketch Challenge #254 on Splitcoaststampers. The card base is Spring Leaf from Mark's Finest Papers. All the rest of the paper is from Basic Grey's Wassail DP pad. The ornament is colored with Copic markers. I added a few Basic Grey half-pearls for a little interest on the corners.

Stampin'B's Challenge #31 - Holiday/Christmas

Faith (a/k/a Markie's Mom) was the hostess for this week's Stampin'B's DT Blog challenge. Her Christmas/Holiday card challenge gave me an opportunity to use my new Santa from Flourishes.

For my first card using this set I decided to start out simple with him – stamping with Palette Cognac on Flourishes Classic White and adding just a little color using Spica glitter pens on his glasses and the holly leaves. The holly berries are half-pearls. Colored cardstock is Bravo Burgundy, Always Artichoke and Basic Grey Wassail DP. The sentiment is stamped with Always Artichoke, cut out with a Petite Oval nestie, sponged with Creamy Caramel while still in the nestie die, and matted in Always Artichoke.

What a Fun Weekend!

I just got back from Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in north Florida. Faith (Markie's Mom on Spitcoaststampers) holds a stamping retreat twice a year there. All I'm showing you today are some of my stamping buddies (both old and new ones) and a few of the many projects we created during our almost non-stop stamping marathon. It was so much fun meeting many of the people you "talk" to on the computer.

This is NancyRuth (an SCSer) and my very dear friend Rosemary. I had met NancyRuth in March at another of Faith's retreats. It was good to see her again. NancyRuth and I are both part of the StampinB's, as is Faith.

Here's my friend Rosemary again with Vicki (vducher on SCS), a new stamping friend. I had never met Vicki before, but we almost felt like we knew each other well. After seeing each other's avatars on SCS, we recognized each other right away. It was like seeing an old friend again.

And here are Robbie (inkyfingers on SCS) and Peggy (pegmac71 on SCS). Rosemary, Robbie, Peggy, and I made our way together through the many tables of projects for two days.
-------
Here are some of the almost 45 projects we completed during our marathon. Faith prepared around 20 projects for us, and we each brought a shoebox swap to share.

Unfortunely, there were a few of the shoebox swaps that I was unable to complete Saturday night. I did grab most of the unfinished projects and brought them home to complete. Of course, I had to use different stamp sets for these projects. And I think I did miss one of them completely.

I must admit I didn't get much sleep between the stamping and the visiting. I will definitely sleep well this week! Of course, I have a busy stamping weekend scheduled on Friday and Saturday of this week too! Rosemary and I have our monthly "girls day out" on Friday, and Saturday is a Christmas Stamp-a-Stack. But I'm not complaining!!!

Friday, October 30, 2009

Joanne (a/k/a Jojot) was the hostess for this week's Stampin'B's DT Blog Challenge. She wanted us to make a Thanksgiving/Autumn card, which is very timely. Fall weather has finally come to Florida, although it was cooler last week than this week.

While I was visiting my sister a few weeks ago, we focused our efforts on Fall cards. I had wanted to try using some metal sheets on a card, so I embossed a piece of copper using my sister’s Fiskars embossing system and glued it to the edge of the inside of the card. The front of the card is cut at 3 ¾ inches, allowing the copper piece to show. I stamped the sunflower with Palette Burnt Umber and colored it with Prismacolor and Copic markers. The sentiment, from TPC Studio’s Fabulous Fall set, is also stamped in Palette Burnt Umber. I embossed the River Rock background piece with Cuttlebug’s Script folder and matted it with Really Rust. I thought the variegated green ribbon went really well with the Always Artichoke base.

Twilight Tuesday Sketch Challenge #14

This week's Twilight Tuesday inspiration challenge is a sketch. I must confess that my card has very little to do with Twilight today. I've been making Christmas cards, so that's where I went with the sketch.

I bought this pretty little dollar stamp with the sole purpose of being able to use it with my Spellbinders Labels One die. I thought this sketch would lend itself to the image. After stamping three times with Memento Cottage Ivy, I colored the holly berries with a Spica glitter pen. I had to wing it a little bit with the sentiment. Originally I had cut out an opening with the Word Window punch and stamped the sentiment in the white opening. However, I realized too late that the punch opening was crooked. So I had to layer another piece on top of the opening. I added two little punched-out holly leaves at one end.

Stampin'B's Challenge #29 - Diagonal Double Pocket

Nicole (ButterflyEars) was the hostess for this week's Stampin'B's DT Blog challenge. She had us make a diagonal double pocket card. I haven’t done one of these for a long time. Nicole’s challenge cured that! The tutorial in SCS’s Resource section was helpful in reminding me how to do it – much folding!

The gorgeous paper is from Basic Grey’s Wassail collection. I stamped the little nutcracker from Art Impressions’ Christmas Toy Shoppe with Palette Noir Black and colored him with Copic and Prismacolor markers. After cutting out the oval with a Nestabilities die, I sponged with More Mustard before removing the die; then matted with the Basic Grey DP, More Mustard, and white. The little sentiment on the front is part of a stamp from Lizzie Anne Designs called Many Merries. The stamp is a list of how you say Merry Christmas in seven different languages. I used a marker, colored just the right one, and then stamped and punched it out – matting it in More Mustard. The larger tag is stamped with an image from Flourishes’ All Wrapped Up, and the smaller one is from Lizzie Anne Designs’ Holiday Script.

I forgot how much fun this type of card was. Thanks, Nicole, for suggesting it.

Featured Stamper & Team Spirit

This is for two challenges -- the Featured Stamper (RileyDancer) and also for a challenge put out there by Stacy (a/k/a Twinshappy) to make a card for your favorite NFL team.

When I was looking through Riley's gallery, I was keeping an eye out for something I could CASE for Stacy's challenge as well. I chose Riley's SOS? card. I kept her layout but changed everything else: stamps, colors, theme. I used my Just Rite Stamper and the small individual letters to spell out the Dolphins' name -- and also the Go Team sentiment. Using the Dolphins' colors of orange and teal, I cut out the circles and the ovals.

Stampin'B's Challenge #28 - Halloween

Vicky’s Halloween Challenge was so timely. I’m in the process of making about 90 Halloween cards for the residents of the assisted living facility where my mom lives. This one has somewhat non-traditional Halloween colors.

I stamped the Stampscape moon and clouds with Not Quite Navy onto white cardstock. Then I stamped the tree silhouette from SU Nature Silhouettes over it, sponging in some black at the bottom. The three small bats are from MFT’s Fright Night. After adding a little more grass with a small Rubber Stampede stamp, I sponged in some more Not Quite Navy at the bottom of the clouds down to the grass. I made the background DP by stamping a Michaels $1 stamp of bats onto the Bashful Blue. The sentiment is from the SU Grateful Greetings set from their Holiday Mini-Catalog and matted it in black.

Of course, this year I won’t be home for Halloween. I’ll be at Faith’s Stampin’ Retreat!

Stampin'B's Challenge #27 - Gatefold with Flowers

As hostess for the Stampin'B's Design Team Blog this week, my challenge was to do a fun fold that I like to do on occasion – a gatefold card. I decided to make a little bit of a twist, so I added the requirement of a flower. Last week, I had made a Thanksgiving card, so this week I’m making a Christmas card.

I cut the poinsettia out using a BossKut die and some really pretty suede paper from Marco Papers. I attached the cut-out poinsettia to a circle, cut with my nestabilities and attached it to the front of the card. The DP is from a big stack of Christmas paper I bought several years ago, and I added some velvet ribbon to one panel and three half-pearls to the other. It’s probably hard to see on the photo, but I put some stickles on the center brad – just for a bit of bling!

No stamping on the outside of this card, but I did put a sentiment (SU Many Merry Messages) on the inside, along with the small poinsettia from Flourishes’ Poinsettia & Boxwood, colored with Copic and Prismacolor markers.

I hope the rest of the team enjoyed this challenge as much as I did.

Twilight Tuesday #49 - At Home in Forks

It's been a while since I did a Twilight Tuesday card, and today's Inspiration Challenge (Home is Where the Heart Is) seemed like a good one to do. The challenge was to make a craft based on either a home discussed in the series or what means home to you.

I know that Charlie's house only has windows on the first floor in the front, but this Lizzie Anne Designs house looks pretty close. I masked the house when I stamped the trees. And, of course, there's Bella's truck in the yard. I didn't have a truck stamp that was the right size, so I printed a clip-art image from one of my graphic programs -- Printmaster from Broderbund. When I did the sky, I didn't want to do it in blue, because there are no blue skies in Forks, Washington. So I used Going Gray to make the cloudy sky. I added a little paper piercing on two sides and popped up the sentiment.

Stampin'B's Challenge #26 - Pumpkin

NancyRuth was the hostess for the Stampin'B's Design Team Blog challenge this week. She actually gave us an easy challenge -- to use a pumpkin on our card. I was making Thanksgiving cards a week or so ago with my sister, and what would a Thanksgiving card be without a pumpkin?!!

After stamping with Palette Noir Black ink on PTI White cardstock, I colored the image from SU’s Harvest Home set with Prismacolor and Copic markers. I used my sister’s Octagonal Nestabilities to cut out the image and the Really Rust mat. (I like those octagonal nesties – will have to put them on my wish list.) The background paper is from last year’s Debbie Mumm Harvest & Holiday DP pad, and the ribbon is from Michaels. The sentiment, stamped with Versafine Vintage Sepia ink and clear embossed, is from one of the SU All Year Cheer sets – not sure which one! This is a very simple card, but I like the way it turned out.

Stampin'B's Challenge #25 - Watercoloring

Faith (Markie's Mom) was the challenge hostess on the Stampin'B's Design Team challenge blog this week. She had me scrambling with another watercolor challenge. Actually, this is the second card I made for her challenge. I forgot to take a photo of the first one before I gave it to my sister for her birthday.

Take two: – the image is a beautiful sunflower from Rubber Stampede, which I colored using watercolor crayons and an aquabrush. I still have a problem with the washed background. I’m going to have to work on that process! The Heidi Grace DP was just the right color to go with the Really Rust mat. The sentiment, from PTI’s Birthday Basics, is cut with one of the smaller dies in Spellbinders Labels Four set.

I guess I should thank you, Faith, for making me work at a technique with which I struggle. Practice, practice, practice!!!

Stampin'B's Challenge #24 - Humorous (is it?)

Joanne’s challenge on the Stampin'B's DT Challenge Blog made me scramble this week. I don’t have too many “humorous” stamps, so I had to wing this one.

I think we could all relate to the sentiment on this Inky Antics stamp in one way or another – be it overeating or overspending or whatever. One way to eliminate reading about our vices definitely would be to give up books and magazines!!

After stamping Sassy Suzie with Palette Noir Black and coloring her with Prismacolor and Copic markers, I cut out the panel with Nestabilities Label 4 and matted it in Pixie Pink. The DP is from a DCWV stack called The Sweet Stack, which seemed very appropriate with the sentiment. It’s hard to see in the photo, but the glittery brads sparkle in the light.

How do you like that cupcake in the background? It’s foam rubber, and I found it in a great little gift shop near my favorite LSS in Mount Dora, Florida.

Creative Design Boutique Blog Hop

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, our Creative Design Boutique Blog Hop is a little late this month., But , as they say, “better late than never.” This month we are spotlighting the set Floral Breeze by Rita Marie and Company. And BLOG CANDY is involved!!!

In looking for a layout, I went back to PageMaps and found this one, which was a little unusual – I liked the little “belt” across the main panel. I stamped one of the swirly flower images on a tag of SU River Rock, colored it with Prismacolor and Copic markers, and matted it with Always Artichoke. I stamped and colored a second image, cut out the flower, and popped it up on top of the first. I made my own DP for the horizontal panel using several of the smaller flowers in the set, stamping in both River Rock and Groovy Guava. I love these two SU In Colors from last year. The edges are cut with an EK Success border punch. For the background I chose Groovy Guava DSP, and the belt is held down with two small brads. The sentiment is a rub-on.

All images may be found at Creative Design Boutique.

Make sure you visit ALL of the blogs of the Creative Boutique design team, leave comments on ALL 6 of the Blog Posts; and a winner's name will be chosen from those posts on Thursday, September 17, and posted at 6 PM. You have to leave a comment on each blog to be eligible to win. Here are the links for the rest of the team! Good Luck!

Stampin'B's Challenge #23 - 3 x 3 Box

Nicole (ButterflyEars) was the challenge hostess this week on the Stampin'B's Design Team blog, and she had a fun challenge for us this week -- to make a 3 x 3 gift box and four matching cards. I had to check out the tutorial in the Resources section of Splitcoaststampers for the directions for a 3 x 3 box. Actually, I think my box came out around 3 1/4 x 3 1/4, but it was close enough.

The base of the box itself is SU Basic Black, covered with some G*C*D Floral Garden DP I had left over from a previous Twilight project. The base of the lid is SU Real Red, covered with Real Red DSP. As a true Twilight fan, I had purchased the two Artful Inkables stamp sets inspired by the Twilight phenomenon – Into the Moonlight and Fictionally Inspired. The image on the box depicts the covers of all four books in the series. Those images appear singly on each one of the covers. I stamped it with Palette Noir Black and colored with Prismacolor and Copic markers, sponging around the edge with Real Red. I cut out the squares with Nestabilities and tied the silver ribbon around the lid.

The four matching cards were quite simple – Flourishes Classic White, SU Real Red, and some more of the G*C*D Floral Garden DP. I had to make the envelopes using my Ultimate Crafters Companion Enveloper – what a great tool! I stamped the back of the envelope flaps with a small flourish from Swirly Q’s by Fiskars. I have already given this gift away to my daughter-in-law, another big Twilight fan.

Timeless Tuesday - Gerbera Daisies

A quick posting today. This week's Timeless Tuesday on the Flourishes Blog was a sketch designed by Cindy Haffner.

I used my new Gerbera Daisies, stamped with Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed. Then I colored the image with Prismacolor and Copic markers. All the DPs are from Basic Grey's Lemonade paper pad and the panels are matted in SU Old Olive. The sentiment is from Summer Blossoms, also clear embossed. It's a bit hard to see, but Apricot Appeal is stippled all around the outside edge of the main panel. After I had glued everything down, it looked a little low on the card base, so I added the butterfly to pull the eye up a little. Hope that worked!

Twilight Find at Barnes & Noble

My friend Rosemary and I went to the movies last night. We saw "The Time Traveler's Wife," which we enjoyed quite a lot. We had arrived at the mall about 45 minutes early; so, after we bought our tickets, we wandered over to Barnes and Noble to see if they had any new Twilight stuff. Lo and behold, in among the books, calendars, key chains, etc., etc., what did we find? Rubber stamps!!! Who would have thought? Fortunately, there were two sets sitting on the counter. It might have gotten ugly if there had only been one set left. LOL!!!

When I got home, I naturally had to play with them. There are two other Twilight fans in my office -- one a Team Jacob (as am I) and the other a Team Edward. Not to play favorites, I made a card for each of them.

The background of the Team Jacob card is from Innovative Stamp Creations, which I colored with Prismacolor and Copic markers. I stamped Jacob, the wolf paw and the Twilight with Memento Rich Cocoa. The DP on the Team Edward card is some Deja Views paper I had left over from another Twilight project -- the colors are perfect. Edward is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black; the Team Edward, Cullen banner and Twilight are stamped in Versafine Black Onyx and embossed with Clear ep. The small photo corners and mat are SU Real Red.

If you're a Twilight fan, you should check out Twilight Tuesday. These cards are for their Challenge #45.

Stampin'B's Challenge #22 - Shades of Brown

Vicky’s challenge to make a card using Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, Creamy Caramel, and any neutral came at the right time for me. My older son’s birthday was coming up, and I needed to make a birthday card for him. I chose the larger grandfather clock from Gina K. Designs’ set A Special Father for my main image.

I stamped it in Palette Burnt Umber and colored it with Prismacolor and Copic markers. After sponging around the edges with Creamy Caramel, I matted the image in Chocolate Chip. The background was created by stamping a pocket watch image by Inkadinkadoo in Whisper White onto Close to Cocoa cardstock and embossing it. I added the wide satin caramel-colored ribbon and chocolate-colored grosgrain ribbon.

Inside the card is a Target gift card, tucked into a little pocket I created using Close to Cocoa and Very Vanilla – stamped with a greeting and another smaller pocketwatch. That small pocketwatch is actually part of a collage stamp by Inkadinkadoo. I just colored the watch portion with a brown marker and stamped it on the panel.

Timeless Tuesday and a New Technique

I saw this really cool technique called Painting with Powder at a LSS in Mount Dora, Florida. Stampendous has a YouTube video on their website – you should check it out. I combined this technique with today’s Timeless Tuesday challenge on the Flourishes Newsletter – no coloring of images.

Following the directions on the Stampendous video, I created the background using embossing powder in blue; white; silver; and a mixed color called Winter Wonderland, which is silver and white combined. Then I stamped the sleigh and snowman/tree in Versafine Black Onyx ink and embossed in clear. The sentiment was stamped with Versamark and embossed in red. The body of the sleigh was stamped onto some glitter paper I bought last year from Flourishes, cut out and paper-pieced onto the image on the card.

With all the sparkle from the embossing and DP, I didn’t think it needed any embellishments, so I just matted the picture in silver and more of the red glitter paper, and glued it down to the white base.

Stampin'B's Challenge #21 - Acetate

I was the challenge hostess for this week’s Stampin’B’s Design Team, and my challenge was to use acetate (clear cardstock) on our cards. I had made a card a couple months ago with an acetate overlay on the front and was so pleased with how it looked that I wanted to do another one.

I stamped the larger lemon topiary tree from Flourishes Life, Love and Lemons set onto white cardstock and colored it with Prismacolor and Copic markers. After I cut it out using the Mega Curved Rectangular Nestabilities, I sponged the white panel with So Saffron ink before removing the die and then mounted it onto the Wild Wasabi panel. I had purchased a package of card bases and envelopes at Michaels, which make cards 5 x 6 ½ inches -- a really good size for many of the Flourishes stamps. Because of the larger size, you can see much of the So Saffron DSP. The clear cardstock overlay is attached at the back (a ¾ inch folded section) with red line tape. The lemon slices are glued to the clear cardstock. It’s difficult to see, but I used Crystal Effects on the lemon juice drops on the slices.

* Stamps - Life, Love and Lemons by Flourishes
* Paper - Flourishes Classic White, Wild Wasabi, So Saffron DSP, Flourishes Clear Cardstock
* Ink - Palette Noir Black, Versafine Black Onyx, So Saffron
* Accessories - Nestabilities, Copic and Prismacolor markers, Clear ep, Crystal Effects, Sponge dauber

I decided to make a second card for this challenge -- this one a bit more whimsical. My sister and I always make Halloween cards for the residents of the assisted living facility where my mom lives -- a total of 90 cards, so we have to start early. This week's video on Stamp TV was to make a shaker card. These are always fun. If you are unfamiliar with shaker cards, be sure to watch Gina K's tutorial.

I cut the frame using my Oval and Scallop Oval nestabilities and taped the acetate on the back of the opening. The sentiment in the frame is from Debbie Mumm's Harvest set, which includes both Halloween and Thanksgiving/Autumn stamps. I filled the opening with orange and dark brown micro beads, and popped on the back. The DP is from a pad of Debbie Mumm paper, which matches the stamps. I love this Hero Arts witch, and I've used her on many Halloween cards. The spider is new -- it's a dollar stamp from Michaels.

* Paper - Basic Black, Very Vanilla, Debbie Mumm Harvest & Holiday DP, Fourishes Clear Cardstock

I hope the rest of the team had as much fun with this challenge as I did.
